Auburn Defines Our Season?

The more I think about it the more it seems to me that the Auburn game defines our season.

If we win that gives us a real shot at a nine win season, which is what the highest level of reasonable expectations on this board before the season were.

If we lose we end up with an eight win season or worse, which doesn't seem like progress from last year. It would be a letdown.

If we lose to either Vandy or Western Carolina the season is a disaster no matter what else we did. Meanwhile LSU is sitting there with the best player in years at the position on offense we are weakest against so expecting a win in BR seems foolish at this point.

So we are down to this game the way I see it, but our fanbase isn't hyped up very much about it. Maybe I am missing something.

It has gotten to the point that our fanbase melts so bad after any set back that they don't care about any of the rest of the season after a loss or two. Especially the way we lost the two we did. It is weird.

3 pick sixes in the same game was not just "any setback"

Failing to score not even ONE TD vs ole miss was not just "any setback"

The wheels came off of our offense.

Every game feels that way. We'll be fine.

I get that concept in general but it seems from where we stand this season that is the key game from this point forward. The Vanderbilt game only defines our season if we lose, which will be a season defined as a disaster.

Maybe the better way of putting it is the Auburn game is the only way to a "great" season.

That I don't argue with.

Maybe "defines our season" is a bit strong, but it is a huge game. Obviously anything could happen in any remaining game, but I think it's the only true "toss up" left.

If we beat Auburn, we've exceeded my pre-season expectations.

It's a huge game. If we lose and finish 8-4 I think Sumlin's seat will be at least a little warm heading into next year. We win and finish 9-3 and he's fine. At least that's how I personally view it. Anything worse than 9-3 with the schedule we were gifted this year is unacceptable

Agreed on both counts, but I listened to the GBH podcast today and one of the goobers was griping about not beating USC by enough. That's ridiculous. Of course with those guys you never know if they're being smart alecks or not.

Agreed. Kyler will be too. It is a big game, no one will deny that.

I think what I was really going for is what Shane said (once again).

I agree, but personally I have a real problem rooting for players to get hurt. People to suck yes, people to get fired yes, programs to get NCAA investigated yes, but the kids getting hurt is a step too far for me. For that reason ten wins with a bowl is my demarcation line of success.

Now if something happens tomorrow and we are given them ability to streamroll LSU, I will take it. frick LSU.

Why would only LF getting hurt be our only chance

Why not Kyler becoming an unstoppable force over the next three games and speedy, Reynolds, Kirk and RSJ being all 100% healthy?

I have considered that possibility. A game like Texas Tech mid-00s where the last one to have the ball scores. Thrilling last second Aggie win.

I think that is what I will believe will happen. 10-2 it is.

Like the tech game? No way

LSU's offense would never be able to keep up.

IF Kyler has a Johnny like learning curve and all our studs are 100% the game will look like our 2012 cotton bowl

But that's a big if, Kyler has the potential and had a good game last week but let's see how he looks tomorrow and against Vandy

Good point. Getting ahead of them could be a way to shut down their best weapon against us. You know ur footbol Sarge.

I am too. Think about what could happen if we really do have a Johnny 2.0 on our hands...if our defense continues to improve....if if if
